Media Overview for Journal Submissions

Journal of Financial and Economic Dynamics (JFED)

Journal of Financial and Economic Dynamics (JFED) welcomes the submission of high-quality multimedia content—including video, audio, and interactive or animated visualizations—to enrich the presentation, clarity, and scholarly impact of submitted research. Multimedia materials are particularly valuable for illustrating dynamic processes, computational simulations, large datasets, expert interviews, and empirical results central to modern financial and economic analysis.

This policy specifies the permitted formats, editorial guidelines, and technical standards for the inclusion of multimedia in submissions to JFED.

1. Embedding Multimedia Within the Article

Authors are strongly encouraged to integrate video, audio, or interactive elements directly into the main article where such content is essential to understanding the theoretical, empirical, or computational contributions of the research.

1.1 Guidelines

  • Multimedia items should be cited in the main text consistently with figures and tables (e.g., “see Video 1” or “as illustrated in Audio Clip 1”).
  • Each multimedia component must be accompanied by a clear, descriptive caption that explains its content and relevance to the research.
  • As multimedia cannot be reproduced in print versions, authors must provide alternative text descriptions or static representative materials—such as key frames, summary graphs, or transcript excerpts—for print publication.
  • All files must be labeled clearly and informatively (e.g., Video1_Econometric_Simulation.mp4).

1.2 Recommended Use Cases

  • Animated charts and visualizations presenting time-series dynamics
  • Screen recordings of trading simulations, algorithm execution, or computational processes
  • Interviews with economists, policymakers, or industry practitioners
  • Concise audio explanations of theoretical models, estimation procedures, or empirical findings

2. Submitting Multimedia as Supplementary Material

Content that supports but is not indispensable to the core argument of the article may be submitted as Supplementary Multimedia.

2.1 Guidelines

  • Supplementary multimedia must be cited at appropriate locations in the main text.
  • Material not explicitly referenced will be listed in the supplementary appendix.
  • All approved supplementary multimedia will be hosted online and linked via stable URLs.
  • Files must be provided in widely accessible formats (e.g., MP4, MP3, PDF, ZIP).

2.2 Examples

  • Full interview recordings and transcripts
  • Extended simulations
  • Tutorial videos demonstrating replication code
  • High-frequency financial visualizations

3. Thumbnail Image Requirements

3.1 For Videos

  • Select a representative static frame.
  • The thumbnail must match the original video dimensions.
  • Submit as JPEG or PNG.

3.2 For Audio Clips

  • Optional still image may be provided.
  • Recommended dimensions: 1280 × 720 pixels.

4. Technical Specifications

4.1 Video

  • Format: MP4 (H.264 preferred)
  • Resolution: Minimum 720p
  • Duration: Normally under 5 minutes
  • File size: Recommended maximum 100 MB

4.2 Audio

  • Format: MP3 or WAV
  • Bitrate: At least 192 kbps
  • Transcripts encouraged

4.3 Thumbnails

  • Format: JPEG or PNG
  • Minimum 300 DPI for print

5. Accessibility and Ethics

  • Comply with publishing ethics policy.
  • Provide transcripts/subtitles where feasible.
  • Ensure clarity and legibility.

6. Submission Process

  • Upload multimedia files with manuscript.
  • Label files descriptively.
  • Indicate inclusion in cover letter.
