Expanding Social Capital with AI: Mitigating Digital Noise for Synergistic Cross-Functional Alignment in Global B2B Platform Ecosystems

Abstract

In the fast-paced, volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) business environment, the success of Business-to-Business (B2B) platform strategies increasingly depends on the strategic management of Social Capital. This intangible asset drives innovation, agility, and transformation across ecosystems often fragmented and overwhelmed by digital noise.

This paper investigates the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in amplifying Social Capital in B2B platform ecosystems. AI can be leveraged to filter expansive social networks like LinkedIn, and organizations can identify high-value nodes essential for trust-building, meaningful engagement, and measurable performance gains across organizational boundaries. Building on foundational research in Social Capital for B2B growth, the paper introduces an AI-enabled model that enhances cross-functional and interorganizational collaboration by aligning traditionally siloed functions - marketing, sales, and supply chain - within a unified digital strategy.

The research contains real-world case studies to demonstrate the influence of AI technologies on Social Capital by enabling process acceleration, optimised relationship management, and improved alignment across platform-based operations. By strategically deploying AI, firms can mitigate digital noise and foster ecosystem-wide synergy, enhancing resilience, innovation, and sustainable competitive advantage.

The paper concludes with data-driven recommendations, providing a roadmap for B2B leaders to effectively harness AI in managing Social Capital as a critical enabler of digital transformation and organizational alignment in complex international ecosystems.
