Article Processing Charges (APC)

JISS is an open-access journal: all articles are freely available to readers immediately upon publication, with no subscription or paywall barriers. Publication costs are covered by an Article Processing Charge (APC).

Amount. Upon acceptance of a manuscript, authors pay an APC of $2,000 CAD plus applicable taxes. Canadian sales tax (HST/GST) is charged according to the author's location in Canada; no Canadian sales tax is charged to authors outside Canada. There is no submission fee — the APC applies only to accepted articles. It covers editorial handling, peer-review management, copyediting, typesetting, production, DOI registration, and open-access hosting.

Waivers and discounts. In line with standard open-access publishing practice:

• Corresponding authors based in countries the World Bank classifies as low-income economies receive a full waiver of the APC.
• Corresponding authors based in lower-middle-income economies receive a 50% discount.
• Eligibility is based on the corresponding author's country of affiliation; authors should indicate eligibility at the time of submission.

Requests for a reduced APC. Authors who are unable to pay the APC and do not qualify for an automatic waiver or discount may email jiss@insspress.org to request a reduced APC. Requests are considered case by case by INSS Press staff. A waiver or payment request never affects editorial decisions.

Payment. Articles are published first; INSS Press issues an invoice after publication. Payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date.

Refunds. APCs are non-refundable once the article has been published.
