Abstract
We are pleased to introduce the inaugural issue of the Journal of Intelligent and Sustainable Systems (JISS), a forum where researchers across engineering and the social sciences meet to exchange ideas and inspire one another in addressing pressing sustainability challenges and advancing intelligent technologies.
The purpose of JISS is to provide a platform where diverse perspectives converge to explore the complex interplay between intelligent technologies and sustainability. Engineers may contribute advances in renewable energy; biotechnology and healthcare specialists may explore genomics and synthetic biology to support sustainable healthcare, agriculture, and environmental management. Business and economics researchers may analyze operational processes, balancing cost considerations with supply chain resilience and social responsibility. Scholars in social sciences may investigate how human behavior, organizational decision-making, and governance structures shape the adoption of new technologies. Through this convergence, JISS seeks to foster an interdisciplinary and systematic approach to generate practical, sustainable, and intelligent solutions for the challenges of our time.
As Editors-in-Chief, we are committed to two principles that define JISS:
- Rigorous and fair review — We maintain high scholarly standards while ensuring that feedback is constructive and developmental, helping authors strengthen their work.
- Open access — Research with implications for practice and policy should be accessible to all.
JISS is committed to making knowledge freely available to students, researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers worldwide. We invite submissions from researchers, practitioners, and policymakers that address the intersection of intelligent systems and sustainability. JISS welcomes original research articles, case studies, review papers, and practice-oriented contributions.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics for sustainable development
- Renewable energy, smart infrastructure, and resilient operations
- Biotechnology and healthcare innovations for sustainability
- Sustainable supply chains, logistics, and operations management
- Human behavior, governance, and equity in the adoption of intelligent systems
- Policy and regulatory frameworks for sustainable and intelligent systems.
The success of JISS depends on the active engagement of a diverse scholarly and professional community. By uniting engineering, biotechnology, healthcare, business, social sciences, and beyond, the journal fosters interdisciplinary approaches that generate practical, resilient, and socially responsible solutions for global challenges. We look forward to building this community together and to advancing the conversation on how intelligent systems can support a more sustainable and equitable future.
