Author Guidelines

1) Aims & Scope

The International Journal of New Media and Politics (IJNMP) is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal for the interdisciplinary study of new media and politics across local, national, and global levels. For a full description, see the Focus & Scope page.

2) Types of Articles & Word Limits

IJNMP publishes the following types (word counts include abstract, references, and captions):

  • Original Research — up to 8,000 words
  • Systematic Review — 6,000–8,000; Narrative Review — 4,000–6,000; Mini Review — 2,000–3,000
  • Theoretical Perspectives — 4,000–6,000
  • Methodology — 3,000–5,000
  • Brief Research Report — 2,000–3,000
  • Case Study — 3,000–5,000
  • Perspective / Commentary — 1,500–2,500
  • Policy Analysis / Brief — 2,000–4,000
  • Book Review — up to 1,500

3) Submission Policies

  • Online Submission: via the portal (Start submission: /IJNMP/submit/start/).
  • Originality: Not published or under consideration elsewhere.
  • Language: English; clear, concise academic style.
  • Peer Review: Double-blind; authors must anonymize manuscripts.

4) Submission Process

  1. Cover Letter: significance; policy compliance; optional suggested reviewers (≤5).
  2. Title Page (separate file): full author names, affiliations, emails; corresponding author; optional ORCID; abstract (150–250 words); 5–7 keywords; acknowledgements; funding; conflict of interest statement.
  3. Main Manuscript (anonymized): no identifying info; remove from file properties; use “[Author]” for self-citations where needed.

5) Manuscript Preparation

  • Formatting: Times New Roman 12-pt; double-spaced; 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins.
  • Structure: For research articles, follow IMRaD where appropriate. Other types may be flexible.
  • Headings: clear hierarchy (e.g., bold for level 1, bold italic for level 2).
  • Tables & Figures: embed near first mention; include titles (e.g., “Table 1: …”, “Figure 1: …”).
  • References: all in-text citations must appear in the list and vice versa.

6) Citation Style

Use APA 7th Edition. Examples:

  • In-text: (Author, Year) or Author (Year); quotes include page: (Author, Year, p. 15).
  • Journal: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (2020). Article title. Journal Title, Volume(Issue), pages. https://doi.org/…
  • Book: Author, A. A. (2020). Title: Subtitle. Publisher.
  • Chapter: Author, A. A. (2020). Chapter title. In E. Editor (Ed.), Book Title (pp. xx–xx). Publisher.

7) Ethical Guidelines

  • Authorship: limited to significant contributors.
  • Plagiarism: checked; detected plagiarism leads to rejection.
  • Human Subjects: follow the Declaration of Helsinki; include IRB/ethics approval and informed consent statements.

8) Peer Review & Timelines

  • Screening: editorial scope/quality check.
  • External Review: typically ≥2 independent reviewers.
  • First Decision: aim 6–8 weeks; decision = accept / minor / major / reject.
  • Revision: address all comments; return within specified timeframe.

9) After Acceptance

Provide a final, de-anonymized manuscript and sign a publication agreement. Proofs are sent to the corresponding author for final checking.

10) Open Access & Fees

IJNMP is open access. An Article Processing Charge (APC) may apply upon acceptance. Waivers may be available—see the journal site for details.
